This morning, before leaving San Antonio, we went to the Alamo. Unfortunately I didn't know the story of the Alamo at all, reading the information boards they assume you know the basic story and the main people involved so these didn't really help me. I did however see the welsh flag for the Welshman who died here as one of the heroes which I didn't know!
We then did a short walk around San Antonio and along the river. This was nice as we got to see a quiet part of the city before heading back to the van.
We then made our way to Houston and arrived at 3 in even more intense heat than yesterday! We set up camp by the sea and still it was boiling! When the wind died down for a second or two, I just couldn't move!
As the wind was so strong we decided to set up our tent by a disused boat to protect us by giving us shelter. The boat was cool enough but it really did help... We were very smug, set up early and watching everyone struggle to set up in the raging wind!
Me and Andy then walked to the shop to get a well deserved drink but even the 10 minute walk took it out of us! We enjoyed our drinks in the shade before going back to camp.
Going to the toilet was a real joy, it was so ice cold in there because of the air con, I even considered taking my sleeping bag in, I didn't want to leave!
Eventually I stepped back out to the heat and once the sun went down started on making pancakes for dinner. After a few games with the team we went to bed only to realise that the boat was no longer working as a wind break and that the direction of the wind had changed! The boat was now funnelling the wind straight to our tent! We were not so smug anymore and had to sleep through the relentless beating!
