So we woke up early, in a horrible state! 5.30 the alarm went off and both me and Harry stumbled around to get ready and then got I'm the 6.30 bus to the Tongariro Crossing!
I slept on the bus there and as we got out the two of us felt ragged!!
The rest of the group went on and us two struggled onward battling the hangovers. The start of the trip was okay but it all went so quick as I don't think my mind was present for the first few hours. As we walked onwards our hangovers improved and we caught up with the team! Unfortunately the weather was very poor. The clouds were low and we could have been in Wales!
As we climbed we got into the clouds and had a five meter visibility limit! Now we could have been in the middle of New York City and not known it because it was that bad weather. We kept saying it will clear later in the day, but unfortunately that was just wishful thinking! It stayed wet and miserable.
It was really sad because we knew exactly what the views looked like from all the beautiful postcards! It's meant to be the best walk in New Zealand and arguably one of the best in the world. But it really wasn't for us!
It took us 5 hours and after 2 it started raining really heavily. We were soaked to the bone and not happy! At least our sandwiches were good!
We got back to the bus and had to wait so long for it to return while we waited for everyone. Not a happy experience unfortunately! We made up for it though as we chilled out when we got back before going out again with everyone!
