I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning! My head was throbbing but I needed to catch the bus at 8! Was sad to be leaving everyone, but they were all asleep so didnt get to say goodbye propperly. I think thats a blessing because it would have been very sad! Plus it would have taken a long time to say bye to everyone! From Queenstown to Christchurch is the longest journey Kiwi Experience do. Typical that today is the day I also have a horrid hangover. I got on the bus feeling awful, and after an hour on the roads we pulled over and I stocked up on food and water! I felt a lot better after eating that but was still surviving of 3 hours sleep and couldn't get much rest on the bus. I still really enjoyed the journey, Mew Zealand is such a gorgeous place! Snow capped mountains surrounded us as we drove long winding passes. I couldn't help but stare out the window. Traveling north, it was sad to leave the scenery behind but we finally rolled in to Christchurch around 4.
We got checked in and went for a wonder around the city. It's such a sad place. In 2011 an earthquake hit the city in its centre and destroyed the majority of Christchurch. Today there is a large red zone that is still closed off to the public because it is still being recovered, repaired or demolished. We walked down to the edge of the red zone where we could look through cafe windows which were covered in dust. Dust everywhere, counters shaken and smashed, and cups and plates still on the tables! Looking into the red zone, it was just derelict! Like something off I Am Legend.
After our walk we went to on of a few restaurants still open and enjoyed a nice final meal before going to the supermarket to get some food for tomorrow!
