Week 15- Singapore Day 2
We have been top tourists today.. We went on the open top tour bus around the centre and saw all of the main sights of Singapore. It took us a while to find the bus stop as the shopping centre is so big and ridiculous, it took us about half an hour to even find an exit! We decided it made sense to buy a two day pass as it also included a free boat trip around marina bay!
We had made sandwiches for lunch as we are trying to save our money for Australia! We got off the bus by the river so we could go on the boat trip. The boat trip took about half an hour and did a circle of marina bay. It was amazing to see the skyline of the financial area from the boat! The buildings are so grand! We also saw the little shops down the edge of the river. They were all old buildings and they guide said that back in the day if you had a double storey building you were seen to be more rich than others with only one storey. The majority of the shops just had the one floor but a few had several floors to them (obviously owned by the rich).
Afterwards we sat on a bench by the river and enjoyed our ham sandwiches and carrot sticks!! We got back on the bus from the same bit to carry on the rest of the tour. We sat upstairs in the open top bit and before we knew it the heavens opened and we all went running under the shelter but the rain was still blowing through the sides so we got quite wet. We all ended up running downstairs but the air condition made it freezing! Once back to Suntec city we jumped in a cab back to the hostel. We decided to go to the hawkers market for dinner and had dumplings. They were quite nice but a bit bland. We had bought some prawn crackers at the shop before and the man from the dumpling place kept stealing them which made Gemma very annoyed!
We had showers to freshen up then went and sat downstairs to have a cuppa tea in the communal area! We got talking to a lad Andy about Thailand and Oz as he was doing a similar route to us although he was planning on working in Australia! After lots of laughs about the craziness which is Thailand we headed to bed ready for another day full of sightseeing.
