Week 15- Singapore Day 1
Today we got up had breakfast and set out for the day. We started our day off with a trip to Singapore's Botanic Gardens. Was a bit of a mission to get there (I think we got off the train at the wrong place) but we needed up having to get a bus too. The bus driver was so lovely though, he ended up giving us some money off our fare as we didn't have the right change and he also told us when to get off the bus :) if only our bus drivers in England were so friendly. We ended up walking from one end of the Botanic Gardens to the other! Must have been a good few miles! The gardens were beautiful, there was a big lake when we came in called Swan Lake (although there wasn't many swans) but the lake had loads of fish in and quite a few terrapins which were huge! Charlotte was besotted with them, although she soon changed her mind a bit when I told her they were aggressive little things! The Gardens are huge, full of different flowers, shrubbery, trees etc. they also have a stage in the middle where they hold concerts. We walked around a few of the little gardens that are in there too. We had a look around the shop also.
After our long walk we had worked up a bit of an appetite so we headed to China Town to a dim sum restaurant. We ordered a few dishes to share...prawn dumplings, spring rolls, prawn and mango wraps, ribs and we ordered fried carrot cake which ended up being fish with bits of carrot in it was gross! We also had Chinese tea which was nice and refreshing. We had a walk around china town after found some pretty weird things, on the way ack Charlotte bought some Cakes to have when we got back with tea. They looked like little cupcakes but they had a similar texture to dumplings sounds weird but they weren't bad!
Once we got back we got showered and chilled downstairs. There was a little party going on downstairs for a girl that was leaving the hostel. We got chatting to a couple of people downstairs one of which was a lad from Canada who had lived in Singapore for 2 years but had travelled Singapore also so he gave us a few tips. He also said the Universal Studios wasn't that great and not worth the money! But he gave us a few other things to do :).
