Week 21- Australia (Noosa) Day 3
Simen let us have a lay in today he came round with his didgereedoo at 7 am. We had breakfast got ready and packed up camp as today was our last day boooo! It was a chilly morning but there wasn't a cloud in the sky. We headed to Lake McKenzie which was about a hours drive away from camp. On the way we stopped off at Simens favourite tree, which was in the rainforest. It was a huge tree which was resistant to insects and bugs so back in the day a few of them were cut down and sent over to Egypt. We all gave the tree a hug and got back on track to lake Mckenzie, Fraser Island's very own day spa.
Lake Mckenzie.....WOW! She is beautiful, better than any beach I have ever seen. The sand was white and the water was clear. Simen had told us that the water was infused with tea tree and the sand in the land was silicon sand and was very good for skin hair and teeth. We went round the secret beach and all jumped in. The water as chilly but luckily the sun was shining so it was quite refreshing. We all covered ourselves in the special sand. We brushed our teeth with it, rubbed it all over our bodies and put it in our hair. Tried to make a human pyramid in the water but failed..then we all stayed in the water doing Mikes move 'the bernie' which has been a famous move throughout the trip. We spent the morning kicking around in the water, playing bat and ball on the beach and sunbathing.
Then it was lunch time so we headed to Central station which was formerly the hub of the forestry industry when there was logging on the island. But the native people but a stop to this a good few years back by doing the typical hippy thing of tying themselves to trees and bulldozers. Horses used to lug the wood around but then they used tram carts and some of the axels were still there so some of the boys tried to lift them! We had a walk around and went to Wanggoolba creek which is a scared place for women only and back in the day this would be where the women would come to give birth and men weren't allowed. It's a spiritual and sacred place so there was no swimming here. The creek is also the home to some of the rarest ferns in the world. Simen introduced us to his second favourite tree which is the Strangler, this tree is actually a parasite as it lives off the tree that it grows on for support. Once the tree that it's gross on is dead the strangler is left which is see through. Pretty cool. After our walk we then had our final meal together as a group before Simen dropped people to catch the ferry. We had to say goodbye to our three welsh girlies and Robbie the king of the radio.
We all chilled in the sun waiting for Simen to return to head back to mainland. We went back to camp to pick up our stuff. It was our last opportunity to drive the cars if we wanted to. I wanted to have a go but the other cars were automatic and I wanted to drive brucey the manual but unfortunately we weren't allowed. But I managed to convince Simen to let me have a go and I drove out of camp yay! The experience was slightly ruined by Simen playing a racket that he knows I hate...I'm on a boat by Lonely Island.....which turned into being a longstanding joke all the way home. It was my turn to be DJ for the journey home and I'm on a boat was a popular request. The last stint home I was introduced to lonely Islands other tracks 'd*** in a box' and 'Jizz in my pants' which everyone found absolutely hilarious! Simen said he had a present for me in a box to which mum replied "the only problem is gem is that it is abit small" LOL. The last hour of driving was full of many laughs which summed up the whole trip really. The final song played was "I'm on a boat" and Simen chased me round the carpark playing it. Then he thought he would share d*** in a box with everyone else which everyone found hilarious. After all that commotion we said goodbye to some more of our gang :( sad times but the majority of us were going back to flash packers. We then said goodbye to the rest of the crew and Simen :( which was even more sad. Means Charlotte would both agree that Fraser Island has been the best trip we have done on our travels so far! Definitely cannot wait to go back all ready :).
