Week 21- Australia (Fraser Island) Day 1
Wahhhhhhhh Fraser Island today. Another early start too. Our tour guide Simen came and picked us all up and took us all to the office to get checked in, meet the rest of the group and and watch a awesome safety video which he said we could sleep through ha! There were 22 of all together. After the video it was time to head off to Fraser. We all jumped in the cars. Me mum char and brad all jumped in Simens car along with Monny and Mike who were hilarious. Our party car was banging out Simens tunes, we gave our car a name....Bruce and a bromance had already started In the front between bard and Simen, We drove to rainbow beach to catch the ferry over to the island. The weather wasn't the greatest today so the ferry ride was very windy. Once we arrived on the beautiful Fraser Island that's when the real fun begun and the four wheel driving started, Fraser Island is about 120km long and 20km wide roughly full of day beaches and dunes, The drivers in the 3 cars following did a awesome job. Brad became DJ and started the 'Brucey Radio' there was quite a lot of banter going between all 4 cars on the radio. We headed to camp which will be home for the next 3 days, We had lunch and got chatting then we picked our tent before heading to our first stop Lake Wabby. Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side today but it still didnt stop people from having a dip in the lake, I wasn't brave enough to go in as I saw peoples faces as they got in and i think it was abit fresh. We then had a little hike up to the lookout which looks over lake Wabby and the surroundings, was a pretty amazing view. Whilst up there Simen told us a few stories about Fraser Island who's native name is K'gari and we played the name game to get to know each other a little better.
We then headed back to camp for tea and to try and warm up. Simen introduced us to his big scary boss Marc and told us a fascinating story of how they met...we all sat around talking and getting to know one another. Then the goon and beers got flowing.....there was a game of Jenga going on and the loser had to run naked down the beach, poor nick was the first victim haha. As I loved Simens hair so much mum plaited us together so I could have his hair :) we also shared a love for Shakira too so we had a little bogey to her whilst attached. Everyone was pretty merry including mum who must have drunk at least 2 litres of goon! Hahaha! Everyone had a go on the didgereedoo, it's easier then it looked but mum picked it up quite well. It was a great night around camp, everyone laughing and drinking having a great time despite the pretty grim weather! Hopefully it will be glorious sunshine tomorrow.
