Week 22- Australia (Cairns) Day 3
"Happy Birthday Brad"
Today was Brads birthday and what a amazing day we had. We had a couple of hours between getting dropped off from the night bus and getting picked up for the skydive. Eeeekkkkkk. We got picked up for the skydive at 8:30 am then taken to the office to get suited and booted. We had a little wait before we could get ready for the skydive. Kept asking the groups before us how it was and they all said it was amazing! Once it was our time our instructors came and got us, introduced themselves, discussed what was happening started a video and got us into our harnesses. Then it was time to go. Ahhhhh. I wanted to go first so we hung back to let everyone get on first. Then off we went. As we were going up my instructor kept telling me how high we was. Looking out of the window was scary! The views were awesome though. He pointed out the areas around us, like cairns city a crocodile farm and some other bits. Once the red light came on we started to get ready and get our goggles on (14,000ft high), once the yellow light went on we lifted the door up and got ready to jump out then the green light went on and we were gone!! Had no time to back out. Char followed, then Brad and poor mum was last! Free falling for about a minute and around 10,000 ft before the parachute came out. The feeling was unreal!!!! Fell so fast through the air. He took photos and videos the whole time. Once the parachute was up we did a video of how that was. Then he steered the parachute around a few times which made our bellies go over! Then it was time to land. Had to get our legs right up to make the landing easier. All of our landings were very smooth. Cannot believe we have all jumped out of the plane! Once we were on the ground we all did a quick video of how that was. Absolutely incredible experience we wanted to go back up and do it again! Grabbed a drink as our mouths were so dry then we headed back to the office. We got certificates to say we had completed our skydives :).
We got dropped back to this hostel, me and mum went and got a birthday cake for Brad whilst they went to get a medical certificate for brad to say he could scuba. Put balloons and banners up in the room. Once they were back we went for drinks at the Harbour to celebrate brads birthday and completing the skydive. One the way to the harbour we popped into the skydiving shop to watch our videos, which were absolutely hilarious. After drinks we headed back to the hostel and did the birthday cake!
Then we headed to the night market, was just like walking through a Asian market at some parts. Then brad and char headed back to get ready for his birthday dinner and me and mum had a look around then found the restaurant we were going to tonight. Me and mum went to a Australian restaurant (Ochre) and char and brad went to a Australian grill place on the harbour (Dundees). We all tried traditional Australian cuisine which was kangaroo, emu, wallaby, crocodile and buffalo. I think Kangaroo was a favourite between all of us although I quite liked crocodile too. Me and mum couldn't finish our dessert as there was so much food so we took ours home.
