Week 18- Australia (Sydney) Day 2
Today we had a lot to fit in so we were up early ready for our day! First we got the train to Darling Harbour, this was really pretty and the sun has finally decided to come out!! We wondered around the quay where there were lots of families and children playing in a park. There were quite fancy restaurants and cafés along the side but this was ruined for us as there were loads of aggressive birds which Gemma was highly unimpressed about. We sat down by the harbour looking at all the boats, you could tell they were worth millions of pounds! We tried to find the market but it wasn't open :-(
We then got the free bus down to circular quay to catch the boat to Manly. You could certainly tell it was free, it was jam packed with people all pushing to get on.. Delightful. We just made it in time for the ferry which was lucky. It only took about half an hour to get there so we decided to sit and have our packed lunch on the boat.
When we arrived at Manly, we went to the visitors centre then wondered into the town. Gemma's friend has recommended for us to go to Cold Rock ice cream parlour (these recommendations are turning us into fattys). Nevertheless, it tasted amazing, I had a cookie dough, Oreo and m&m one which was crushed down into the ice cream and Gemma had boysenberry ice cream. We walked down to the beach and walked around to a little beach called Shelley beach. The water was beautiful and crystal clear. There were lots of people swimming and paddle boarding. We decided to sit on a bench and people watch for a while.. Soaking up the sun!
We then got the ferry back to Circular Quay and headed to the Opera House bar for a drink at sunset. The bar is outside and huge.. It also had live music. We enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the sunset over the harbour bridge. The colours were so bright and it was a beautiful sunset. We then got the free bus back to Town Hall. Before we got on the bus stop was full of Asians and as soon as the bus pulled up they all started pushing each other out the way.. They have no concept of queuing what so ever... We have learnt this over the past few months. The bus driver couldn't let them all on so one got angry.. It was quite entertaining watching the driver go crazy at them and Gemma Cheering him! Once back at the hostel we made Spag Bol for dinner and then both Facetimed home.. This was really nice as we haven't had the opportunity recently with time difference and lack of wifi! All in all a great day to end our Sydney experience. We both feel like we could have spent a little longer here...
