Week 18- Australia (Newcastle) Day 4
We got a lay in today... Yippee! It felt so nice although we felt a bit guilty for wasting some of the day. Nonetheless, it was well needed as we are both ill! We had our porridge and banana then headed to the showers to freshen up for the day.
We planned to go to Port Stephens and we had spoken to the lady at the hostel about it the night before. She gave us the bus timetable which was really handy! The bus took about an hour and a half and it was nice to see a bit of 'uncommon' Oz. We went through some very random little villages. The bus drivers in Oz are all so friendly and helpful so when we arrived the man told us exactly were to go.
It took about 15 minutes to walk down to the beach where the sand dunes are. I'm sure I could here the rattling of snakes in the bushes so I was rather scared! When we got down to the sand dunes we approached a man selling tours, he did us a deal of $20 each and took us in a huge coach type vehicle across the sand dunes.. It was rather bumpy to say the least!
He taught us how to use the sand boards and we were straight up the dunes, it actually looked pretty scary from the top. The biggest one was basically a sheer drop for about 30 metres! The views were beautiful and we spent a far bit of time talking to the instructor about Port Stephens and Oz in general. He was also like our little photographer so we have some great photos from the afternoon! The sand boarding was great fun and we felt like little kids!! It was hard work getting up the sand dunes though so after about 4x we decided to end it.
We headed back to the beach and sat and finished off our lunch, although, it started to get quite windy so we decided to catch the bus back. We needed to pop into Coles and the hostel were doing a free BBQ.. If turned out to just be sausages but it still filled a hole ;-) so after a busy day we both fell straight to sleep when our heads hit the pillow!
