On the second day of Rob's tour for us, we started by heading out to the shopping centre for another ill fated attempt to buy a waterproof cover for our bags (at some point our luck is going to run out on that). After mooching around for a while we headed over to the slightly less famous Montevideo sign, and after some photos, then walked around the rambla for a while to take in the view. At that point the coast is still a river, but it's so massive you'd never know, you can't see the other side. It's the widest in the world.
We then went back over to the old town to go to a museum about the Uruguayan rugby team whose plane crashed into the Andes in 1972, and were found alive 74 days later (I think 74). It was really incredible to see how some people survived despite so many horrific things happening, and I bought the book Alive based on it to read. Really interesting and the owner was clearly really knowledgable and inspired by their survival. The only part I didn't like was when he asked what we were doing tomorrow, and we realised we were taking the exact same flight (ie Montevideo to Santiago)...! Decided not to tell anyone from home that until we'd safely made it to Santiago!
Later we had dinner and champagne in the hotel (a honeymoon gift!).
