I was looking for a pit stop before I made it down to the islands. Looking at the map and considering the distances, I choose PKK as it was right in the middle. Seemed like the logical thing to do... and in the end the absolute right decision. I found my favourite town in Thailand. Apparently one of the Kings favourite spots too as this is where he built his modest vacation home. Its a small ocean side town with a beautiful blue bay dotted with fishing boats and Wat Khao Chon Krachok on the left to climb and spy on monkeys. Small but scenic to say the least. I got dropped off by train at 230 am and was immediately approached by a girl asking if I needed a place to stay. She walked me to a guesthouse and made sure I had a room before she left. Little did I know how much time we would spend together in the future. I kept to myself the first couple days, trying to stay off the beach and not hike as the multiple infected cuts on my feet from Songkran needed time (like I said, lost the shoes at some point). But when I got out I ran into Dusadee and she introduced me to some of her friends... great friends, thats really when my time in PKK began. The next day I was out of the hotel and living with one of them, spending time with their families and children, doing day trips to the beach (Ao Manao), riding around town, monkey watching, and wasting the days in the best of ways. 'Gecko' the guy I was staying with asked me why I travel. The easiest way to sum it up briefly was to say, to learn about other cultures. After that night, the following week was dedicated to show me the real Thai life in PKK, the hill billy town of Thailand as they call it. They were very simple, happy and spiritual. They thought me so much about Buddhism, Gods, traditions and legends. I wish I had a tape recorder to have been able to remember every detail. Everything about this place was likeable, the people here were like magic... I know how strange that must sound, but its the best way I can describe it. But like all good things, it had to come to an end. With that visa date approaching, I said my goodbyes after 10 days (it was just supposed to be a pit stop) and continued south.
