I had one main goal to return to the Thai islands. Scuba diving license. So I took a night boat where you sleep on the deck with the crew, open air, watching the stars to arrive in Koh Tao in the morning, one of the top two places in the world to get certified. This boat was the cheapest option as its the boat they used to ship water and food to the island everyday. Just before I got on I remember thinking about that statistic about people eating three or so spiders a year. Since I was sleeping next to mango boxes and such, I thought if it should be true, my chances were pretty good. It was obviously a light sleep, and at 3 am, I felt a little something on my face, when opened my eyes, all I saw were antennas. Cockroach on my face. I wish I would have just eaten the spider. A crew member that was awake got pretty entertained by the foreigner who woke up and started frantically slapping herself in the face at least. I did not waste anytime when I got there to get my diving course in order. Since I got in at 5 am, I went to the east coast of the island to go for a swim at Ao Hin Wong for a quick swim and came back to Ao Mae Head town to register and start that very day with a great company, Impian divers. I even got to go under 5 meters on the first day. There was lots of theory, quizzes, schedules, homework and fun. After three days I was exhausted but satisfied. Open water certificate and plenty of time under the sea watching the colourful fish, beautiful coral and just being memorized by this other world. It was hard to keep my regulator in my mouth my jaw kept dropping it was so amazing. I would have liked to stay a few more days to go to shark island and go see sting rays, but there will be more dives in the future where I'll get the chance. The visa needed renewal for the fourth time, so back on the deck I slept ( no critters on my face this time that I was aware of...). Got dropped off at 5 am again with a very long day ahead of me. Three cities, a short cross over to Myanmar and then to the monastery...
