Well it has been one hell of a week at Ohau and I now firmly believe in the saying of "bad things happen in three's"
About three days ago we had the dump catch on fire (we burn anything that isn't recycled or given to the pigs) but thats changing soon :) It burned for about two days but didn't cause any major damage...the fire crew only had to come out to make sure it didn't get out of hand.
Then two nights ago everyone was hanging out in the kitchen after dinner. Sam was taking photos of brownies and the rest of us were milling about facebook when Scotty runs in and looks out the door. Fire! Our chemical shed had spontaneouslyu combusted. Everyone was out the door and took a few chairs with them. What happened next was rather amazing. The contiki tour guys started helping with a bucket brigade we were running out of the kitchen, the outdoor facet, and the laundry room. We went through all of the fire extinguishers and were just using hoses and buckets by the time that the tree caught fire. Our only trained fire fighter was all the way down the raoad and with out a car so he ran all the way up (and still beat the rural fire department there). By the time the engines arrived everyone was soak and the fire started hitting the paint and olil cans and exploding...pretty cool. Ashley the waitress served dinner through the whole thing and keep most people away. Then it was back to work like nothing had happened, get dinner on the table. Though we did have some fun downloading some "themed" music for that night in the bar. "Burn baby burn" and "fire, water, burn" to name a few.
so we've all been waiting on pins and needles for the next big thing and it happened last night at about 2 am. Richie one of the more rowdy bus tour leaders from Contiki decided that he was going to take two girls swiming and had walked around the deck railing onto the main temple roof and right of the edge of the roof and woke up a majority of the German Saga tour as he fell and broke his pelvis. Sounds as if he's doing alright and might have to have surgery.
