When I first started thinking aobut moving to Auckland I had all these ideas and plans of getting a nice simple job in the city or near by town. Getting a flat and having my own room, getting to know people in the area, and essentially setting up a nice little life for myself before traveling again. The past three weeks has blown that little flat fantasy right out of the water, and you know I think I'm ok with that (granted I wasn't last night). Expectations are funny things and not exactly the best travel companions. Having a goal, and idea, and something you want to work towards are great in non traveling life but as soon as you give up the comforts of home it's best to leave your expectations there as well. So starting today I'm dropping my six month in New Zealand fantasy for something else.
So I'm buying a used tent, mailing some stuff home, and heading to the Bay of Islands for a three week kiwi tree pruning job. From there I could go to Otago and spend a month working in the Vineyards or The Valley to camp and work at the Orchards. What originally drew me to new Zealnd was the landscape and so I've decided that I should probably get out and see it. Seasonal work is everywhere and camping is cheap.
