BULA BULA!!!
More from Fiji....Well the boat that takes you to the island s is like a bus really, backpacks are flying on & off the boats & they stop at every island along the way. I went up with Paul, a really cool guy from my hostel & we just sunbathed (well until I got sunstroke that is) & listened to music the whole way up, actually that's a lie Paul snored the whole way up so I had to entertain myself.
Long Beach turned to be exactly what I thought I wanted, there were like 6 fijians, 12 backpackers & nothing else, & I mean nothing. The beach was amazing but omigod I was stuck with the most gormless Norwegians & a very creepy Israeli & after a day I was sooooo bored. I was completely black from over sunbathing, I´d read about 200 pages of my book (more than I managed in 6 wks in oz) & I really wanted to be with pissed up backpackers doing the conga somewhere else!
On my last night one of the locals arranged a kava ceremony & I was dead pleased as I was sure it would relieve the boredom. Kava is a herb that acts as a narcotic but its completely legal in Fiji, it kinda relaxes you and numbs your mouth & the Fijians have been using it for trillions of years (well maybe no that long!). Anyway once you´re in the Kava circle you cant leave until the chief excuses you & usually thats until its over.
After 13 half coconut shells full of Kava later & a shadow of my former self I swear I felt ready to die. I could no longer feel my face let alone my lips, I was about to pass out & the urge to throw up was unbelievable & i wasn't sure if vomiting all your Kava on the chief was the done thing in Fiji so I was mighty pleased when the electricity got cut off at 10pm (as it does every night at Long beach) & we were all excused to go to bed!! Mind you I have ever slept so well!!
Some English gals had recommended another resort on an island further north called Coral View so I thought right that's where im going today!!
More when I get there!! xx
