We have done alot in the time that I have missed writing on my blog... so will try to keep it brief! We arrived in Chaing Mai on Monday morning and after lazying around we found our bearings and my lost bag from the train and met with the tour guide for our 3 day trek.
The trek was in the jungle, there were 4 of us in the group, me being the only girl, which was not so bad... We first got to go on an elephant ride. Initially was very unsure about this as I had seen how the elephants had been treated in a previous place, but these were allowed to roam free, well apart from when I was on it!
Then we started the hike in the jungle, it was so hot and there were lots of bugs particualty ants, my legs have been bitten to pieces, last count 36 bites! Ouch! It was a really good walk where we saw massive spiders, snakes and lots of other little beasties! By the afternoon there was heavy rain and Alex and I sported a very fetching pink mack! The hut we stayed in was right by the river and it was bloody cold, but we kept our selves amused with Lar our guide giving us puzzles and things to work out... Going to email these to All Saints teachers as they get you thinking, maybe Year 5 could have a go at them they always liked a bit of problem solving!
Next day was all about the walking and we went through some remote villages, the people were lovely. We climbed this massive hill and saw some amazing views, Alex has the pictures as my battery ran out. We ate and slept that night in our guides village and after walking through about 100 paddy fields we arrived just missing the heavy rain! That night we ate some food preparerd by Lar ( The guides father in law) and listened to Lar and Travis, one of theg uys on the tour play guitar, we also sampled the locals whisky and got rather merry... very funny especially when we started to play the drinking games! hehe
The next day we were all feeling rather special, but got up early and had a delicious breakfast prepared by the guides father in law. We then set off on our last part of the trek to the river. This was beautiful and the most scary as well, as going down hill in the rain, caused Alex, more than me problems. However the waterfall we stopped at was amazing and we got a good swim! At the end of the walk we went on a bamboo raft, very nice but the guide mde us get out over the rapids, we were not so pleased looked like lots of fun!
