On friday the 13th of September we arrived into Rotorua. This is the most volcanic area of New Zealand- normally the earths crust is about 40km thick; here it is only 5km! There's lots of geothermal action all around the town an in the surrounding area! rotorua is a lake created due to a volcanic eruption. After arrive on Friday a group of us went on the luge! We got a gondolier up the hill to the top and were given helmets and small go-cart things.. Then we raced each other down applying some F1 tactics with crazy speeds! So much adrenaline and so much fun!! :) Friday evening I stayed with a Maori family. We went swimming and I learnt a lot about the Maori culture.
Saturday morning we went to the Red Woods and walked up to the look out where there was a gorgeous view of the lake. We visited the ohinemutu area of rotorua where we saw a urupa (grave yard) and lots of volcanic action and churches, this is a massive Maori area. After that I web to a geothermal park.. I saw lots of boiling hot lakes and the crust of a volcano with the most amazing coloured blue lake. In the Evening the all blacks played South Africa so we found an Irish bar and watched the game with a few drinks :)
Today is Sunday and after a lie in we all wandered around the town making our way down to the lake. We got some yummy milkshakes then went on some zorb bubbles on the lake as well as peddle boats! It's been an awesome day and the group of people I have met on kiwi experience are lovely! :) tonight we are making a massive group tea and are going to chill in the outdoor pool at the hostel! Tomorrow we go to Taupo! Hope you're all okay!! All my love xxx
