Today we set off from Christchurch up to Kaikoura which is on the east coast! I've been looking forward to this as Kaikoura is where you can do the whale watching in NZ! It's been pretty hot today with nice clear skies so perfect to be out on the water! We were taken out on the water for about 2 hours and were lucky enough to track down a Sperm Whale. These are the 4th largest whales and are the largest carnivore on the earth with a tooth measuring 25cm and 1kg in weight.. They have about 50 teeth! Crazy! We spotted the spray first and moved closer to get a better look.. It was just amazing! We could see about 2/3rds of his length and only 10% of his body and even still is was huge! Such an impressive sight! Eventually he dived down into the ocean depths showing us his ginormous tail! We then went on to see dolphins and seals before finishing the trip! A prefect end to an incredible 6 weeks in New Zealand!
