We arrived in Delhi at about 9.30am and met our transfer who took us to our hotel which was really nice, the beds were so comfy!! After having a nap we had some lunch, our first taste of indian food which was amazing and a nice change from chinese food. We then decided to venture out and took our first tuk tuk which helen drove and proceeded to break despite being told she was a good driver! we were transferred to a shop and hassled in there for a while until we managed to escape without buying anything. We met our new friend who had taken a ride on the tuk tuk with us and who proceeded to demand 10 pounds off of us to which we refused and ended up giving him 20 rupees which was originally agreed and to get him to leave us alone. We then managed to get a taxi without being ripped off to a mosque which was incredibly peaceful and lovely in the evening light. Having got a tuk tuk back to our hotel we had a very early night as we were still exhuasted from the flight. The next morning we got up and took a tuk tuk to raj ghat and saw the resting place of ghandi. The gardens surrounding this area were lovely and we walked through them in the baking heat. We negotiated some very busy crossroads by following the locals only to realise we were miles away from where we wanted to be. So having had a bicycle rickshaw driver approach us we bargained with him to take us around for an hour and show us some of delhi. He took us past the red fort and a mosque and then took us through the streets of old delhi which showed us the real india. The streets were extremely narrow and very busy lined with shops full of ribbons, beads and sari's. The colours were incredible! He took us down a side street with beautiful painted houses to visit a tiny mosque which was built in the 10th century and was exquisite. After a pretty hectic day we headed back to our hotel on an auto rickshaw and then took a taxi to our joining hotel for our delhi to kathmandu trip.
