We took our day old lunch and headed for Snow Canyon State Park. This park is great for riding bikes, which we brought, but were too lazy to take them off the racks. A hike would do us good. The booth lady at Snow Canyon recommended the Johnson Canyon Hike, a 2 mile fairly flat round trip hike. It was a nice walk among high walls of red sandstone that ended in a sandy cul de sac. We were the only ones on the trail except for a woman with four little girls. It was a joy watching the girls have a fun time climbing over the rocks and chase each other. We caught up with them in the sandy cul de sac where they were pretending to be princesses sitting in a rock throne. Very cute.
As we were walking out, the girls caught up with us. Bob stopped the girls and had a very important question for them. What were they going to be for Halloween? The girls cheerfully told us. One was going to be a witch and the others were going to be Dracalaura….I have no clue what that was. Bob, being the Bob that he is, pointed to Walt and told the girls that Walter was already dressed for Halloween…as a clown. The mother, smiled and told Bob that he was kidding, right? One of the girls was deathly afraid of clowns. Immediately, this 6 year old slowly turned around and looked at Walt with the biggest eyes and grabbed the woman's hand and started dragging her. A FUBAR for Bob for scaring the little girl.
After the hike we drove to Coyote Gulch Art Village, an enclave of art galleries, studios, gift shops, and Xetava restaurant located in Irvins. The village is surrounded by southwestern style homes that blend into the landscape. Barb and I wandered around the village and found a couple of Christmas presents while the boys held down a bench. We initially planned to have lunch at Xetava Restaurant, but since we didn't eat our picnic lunch yesterday, we needed to eat it today.
For lunch, we drove back into St George and stopped at the Cottonwood Cove Park and ate our picnic lunch. Over lunch we discussed what we wanted to do the rest of the day. How about a movie and dinner? We picked the time for the movie, Jack Reacher, but now we needed a place to have dinner. What we found out, is that most local restaurants are closed on Sundays. The few that were open exceeded what we wanted to pay and/or the fare was not up to our discriminating palates. So we decided on one of our favorite chains, Outback Steakhouse.
We love Megaplex Theatres. The seats are plush and the leg room is ample. Plus, the popcorn is VERY good. Jack Reacher is a great action pic. We highly recommend it if you like action movies with high body counts. The food at Outback is always consistently good and priced reasonably. We all enjoyed our meals and the dessert was exceptional. We shared a caramel pecan warm brownie topped with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. We will definitely have sweet dreams tonight.
Tomorrow, we head for Beatty NV and Death Valley National Park.
