Last night it rained pretty good. We could hear the pitter patter throughout the night. The morning was overcast, but it was not raining. It could either be a muddy experience or it could be a glorious clear day of sightseeing in the Arches and CanyonLands Parks. We shall see. We arrived at the Visitor Center at the Arches National Park around 9am. It was already very busy. We watched the movie and were intrigued by the formations that were highlighted. So we bought the audio guide for $10.
Arches National Park was a wonderland of shapes and colors that sent our imagination every which way. Wherever we looked we saw figures that made us laugh, smile, be amazed, and wanting more. The arches were awe inspiring. To think that this valley of art was sculpted by the elements of water, erosion, and wind..three simple things and it is constantly changing.
We expected to spend some where between 3 to 4 hours at the Arches. We were there until around 3:30pm and only left, because we wanted to visit Canyonlands National Park.
The Canyonlands were about 30 minutes from the Arches National Park. Wherever you looked it was an oohs and aahs moment. Unbelievable. Just across from the Visitors Center is an overlook. Because of the rains, the air was so clear we could see for 152 miles or more...Spectacular. The topography of the CanyonLands was very different from the Arches. It was more immense and better appreciated from a distance. There are actually three distinct districts, four if you count the rivers, to the Canyonlands Park separated by the Colorado and Green River. We only visited the Island in the Sky district. The other two districts, Needles and The Maze will have to be another trip. After driving out to the Green River Overlook, we headed back to camp to relax before dinner.
It was Walt's and Barb's turn, but we decided to go out to dinner, since we got back later than planned. We passed the Moab Brewery on our way to and from our camp and it was always busy. We checked out the menu online and their fare sounded good and so did their brews. We got there around 7:30pm. There was a 25 minute wait. No problem, we will just go to the bar area. It was packed, too. People were watching the World Series and enjoying a brew. A nice couple, Greg and Laurie, from Wyoming were sitting at a table for four and invited us to cozy up and share their table, which we did. We enjoyed talking to them and sharing RV horror stories until our table was ready.
The food and the brews were not a disappointment. Bob's 1 inch thick rosemary rubbed prime rib was a scene stealer. Not to say we didn't enjoyed our meals, but his looked the best.
When we arrived at the restaurant, Walt dropped us off and he parked the car. When we left, only he knew where he was parked. Barb headed for the first white truck that she saw...it wasn't Walt's. We were waiting to see if she would try to get in. She had us laughing...always a good way to end an night.
Tomorrow, we head for Cannonville/Bryce Canyon KOA with a stop at the Capitol Reef National Park first.
