We loaded our clubs and drove the 3 minutes to Black Jack's Crossing Golf Course in Lajitas. This course was designed by Lanny Wadkins, Professional Golfer. It is ranked by some as one of the top ten courses in Texas. Our tee off time was 10am. We decided by majority to play only 9 holes. Good thing. It took us 3 hours to finish. We all had some great moments and we all had a good ROI (return on investment). Where it would cost some folks $2 per stroke, we averaged $1...more shots for money spent:)
After golf, we had a wonderful lunch accompanied by a round of beers at Candelilla Cafe at the resort. It was so good, we may come back for dinner.
We didn't have time to drive the El Camino del Rio drive through Big Bend State Park yesterday. So, it was back into the Beast for the 50 mile drive. It was a beautiful drive along the Rio Grande through grasslands and canyons. The end point of the drive was Presidio, Texas. Supposedly, James Michener, considered Presidio his most favorite town in Texas. Not much to see. Turn around point could have been at the Fort Leaton Historical Site.
After a dip in the pool, laundry completed, we headed back to the Lajitas Resort for drinks and cards at the Thirsty Goat Bar before dinner at Candelilla Cafe. The boys ordered Meatloaf. I got the last serving of the Beef Ribs with a Pomegranate Glaze. Barb ordered Blackened Salmon on a Cedar Plank. The boys raved about the meatloaf and asked to meet the chef, Edward. Edward is a local boy and he learned to cook from his Grandpa...and the secret ingredient in the meatloaf...barbeque potato chips and no egg. We were the last ones to leave the restaurant.
It was a great time in Lajitas, but there is more country to experience. Tomorrow, we head for Del Rio, Texas, where Lake Armistad is suppose to have the best bass fishing in Texas.
