My Travels In America
Hi Everyone!
I'm going on a road trip tonight...wahoo! I finally get to go to Washington and see some of the sites. It might feel a bit more like we're in America, cos sometimes at camp we forget because there are so many British people here!
I'm gonna be driving down in a 2 seater Mercedes convertible, and I'm so excited!
Yesterday was obviously Independance day here which was fun. Everyone was wearing red, white and blue and in the evening we had a fireworks display down by the lake last night, which was fun and the kids all had glow sticks. It wasn't quite dark enough to get the full effect of the fireworks, but the kids from Journey (6-11 year olds) are supposed to be in bed by 9pm.
We had a tribute song to Richard Whitely the other night that some of the British guys wrote and even though it shouldn't have been, it was really funny. All of the British counselors stood in line swaying to the song and the kids looked at us like we were idiots cos they didn't have a clue what we were talking about!
Each night we have a different evening activity, after our community meetings and generally it's split between the older kids and the younger kids. Last night we had Cafe Horizons in Explorer village which was basically an open mike night with songs, poetry and the kids could sit around playing games (its actually more fun than it sounds cos usually everyone is so tired by that time of night and we have to run around doing stuff, so it was so nice to just chill out).
All of the English counselors got really excited because Adam brought his massive box of PG Tips tea bags to the event and we all sat around drinking cup after cup of tea and getting really excited! It sounds quite sad but you realise how much you like tea when you can't have a cup everyday and we usually end up talking about how much we want a cup of tea at least once a day! (Aren't we sad, lol!). We even wrote a poem about tea and performed it and I was suprised we got away it because it wasn't very 'Camp Appropiate'!
Then after my campers went to bed I went to the 'Do Drop In' which is one of the places we can hang out after 10pm if someone is with our campers, and we can get hot food, drinks and watch TV and stuff which is nice because we get a break from being in the cabin 24/7. It was quite crowded in there so Adam, Pierre and I went and layed down in the middle of the sports pitch to look at the stars which was pretty amazing and I saw 7 shooting stars! I've never seen one before, so it was really cool and I made 7 different wishes!
I hope you are all well and enjoying the nice weather I hear you're having.
Miss you and love you lots
Cary
