My Travels In America
Hi Everyone!
It's been a trickier than I thought to update this thing whilst travelling around America...basically because we never stay in one place for more than 5 mins! Things have been absolutely crazy since leaving camp!
I was definately ready to leave camp after 11 weeks but it was sad to say goodbye to the place and the people that are staying to work the fall. We drove up to DC on Saturday afternoon, after our last campers left on Saturday morning and went and saw the White House and Washington Monument because most of the people I'm travelling with hadn't been to Washington before because I went on my day off with different people before I switched to be with them. We decided at dinner that we weren't allowed to talk about camp but we could only last around 10mins!
On Sunday we went to see the Lincoln memorial, reflecting pool and Arlington cemetary, and we ate dinner at Hooters!!!
On Monday, David and Gill flew to California and that left us with our official travelling group...there's 9 of us, 5 girls and 4 boys. Myself, Alice, Jemma and Rissy spent most of Monday morning at the post office sending home parcels of what we couldn't fit in our suitcases and then we flew to Ft Lauderdale in Florida that afternoon.
We knew that hurricane Katrina had hit Florida but we were hoping it had moved on by the time we got there, which luckily it had, but there were lots of signs that it had recently been there. Trees and traffic lights had been pulled down and when we arrived at our hostel there was no electricity which meant no lights, fans or air conditioning and it was already dark but still extremely hot!!! At first I just wanted to go home because it was so uncomfortable but then we made the most of a bad situation and had a bit of a party on the roof where there was a bit of a breeze.
Miami was so much fun!!! We were 2mins from the beach and we finally got to sit in one place and do nothing for more than 5 mins! The beach was absolutely gorgeous and we all got a nice tan. I forgot to put suncream on my hands and feet so they burnt cos it was 109f! There were so many friendly people at the hostel we stayed in and we all sat outside eating dinner together which was cool. We also went to the beach at night which was fun although there were some weird people around!!!
We then took another Greyhound to Orlando to visit the themeparks. We only had two full days there so we went to Disneyworld one day and Seaworld the next. It was so amazing to see the disney parade and the Shamu shows because I've wanted to see them for so long and we got to meet lots of princesses (yay!), although the cinderallabration was rained off :-(.
Off to Boston next to stay with our friend Amanda!
Lots of love, hugs and kisses
Cary
