Hello again.
Wonderful day again today.
We took mini buses on the hair raising, cliff hugging, u-turning road down to the scenic Positano.
I don't think 'scenic' quite covers it.
It is beautiful.
And I sat on the 'drop' side on purpose.
Unbelievable, especially when you looked ahead and saw the road, on a hairpin bend, hanging out over nothing.
( I am practising for the chairlift in Switzerland! )
Took the long walk down to the beach...unfortunately had forgotten it was a swimming day, so my bathers were in the case under the bus.
But I paddled in the water...gazing up at the incredible cliffs and wonderful different coloured houses with their magnificent flower filled window boxes.
Paddling in the water was wonderful.
It was a pebble beach...but tiny pebbles.... And the tiny pebbles and the waves were a perfect foot massage. I didn't want to get out.
And it was raining....just lightly...but so much fun.
The shops here were amazing....so many clothes shops selling wonderful white lace clothes.
And narrow, narrow streets with several shops on each set of steps to the beach.
I didn't buy anything.
( That chocolate and lemon gelati, doesn't count, does it? )
Back on the big bus again now....heading for the hotel.
Emily, you asked me why the police check took so long the other day.
The drivers have a card like an efpos card, that goes in a slot somewhere up the from of the bus and it records every hour the driver has done for the past 60 days..
So absolutely no fiddling the log books.
He must not start the bus until his break time is up.
So they checked all that apparently.
And, rumour has it, that absolutely nothing moves quickly in Italy if it has the slightest hint of bureaucracy.
And stopping at the 'Autogrills' ....( Hi Brooke! )
Calvin gave us the rundown ...
Queue to decide what sandwich you would like.
Then leave that queue, just as you get close enough to order
Queue to pay for the sandwich.
Pay
Then go back and queue again, show your receipt...they will give you your sandwich.
Must have had some serious sandwich shoplifting here in years gone past to come up with this system.
I have started stealing breakfast and turning it into lunch.
(Since breakfast is included, I can't see that much can be done about that pilfering short of serious bag searching.)
Prior to Italy, I was just buying lunch....but that queue thing really threw me....
Drove though Naples this morning....just the outskirts ....very colourful houses but very run down so obviously only saw a small part of it.
Dinner at the hotel tonight....which will be nice....good to get to the room and just relax.
We are going to be late in tonight because of all the traffic on the narrow, narrow roads.
I don't mind. Very relaxing on the bus. It's 6.40 now and from what I can gather...no where near it yet.
Locked myself out of the room this morning, placing the case outside for pickup....just as well I was not in my PJs....was a long trip down in the elevator from the 5th floor to get a spare key card and back up again.
Have to remember the foot in the door thing.
Is Amanda reading this blog?
Poor girl.
Went for the job in Credit, huh?
Did anyone tell her about how obsessed we all are with holidays?
Arrived hotel.8pm. Just finished dinner.
Going to Pompeii tomorrow.
No longer on our bus with wifi.... Then boat to Greece, I think....I've so lost track.
May not do blog for a couple of days.
Mum and Dad and Emily.... I will ring you from Greece...but after a few days...I expect good wifi at the Novatel Athens...will email to arrange a time.
