I'm ready!
This bag will make sure I am not lost in the crowd.
It made quite a splash at breakfast!
Really enjoyed the walking tour of Trogir.
I had walked it a lot on Thursday but this way you get all the history.
We saw the old gate that used to be locked at night.
Some people were locked out because they arrived late so they built a shelter so they could camp until morning.
The old part of Trogir was built around 1300 but there have been settlements here for thousands of years.
1.5 metres down they keep finding Roman ruins etc.
See the photo of the Bell Tower?
Our guide was telling us that the building looks slightly wrong because originally there were supposed to be 2 Bell Towers.
I like that photo.
I think the second Bell Tower is there in spirit.
And she particularly pointed out the washing in the courtyard.
All quite normal.
Everyone knows everyone.
When I arrived on Thursday, one nice boat pulled up and moored.
Today there are dozens of them.
Saturday in Trogir.
People had to walk across 3 and 4 boats to get to the shore.
These are all tour boats.
There were still the board games that were carved in the marble hundreds of years ago.
There was a chess board as well.
( I would have taken a photo of it but someone sat on it before I could!)
There was also a wall built down the centre of many of the narrow streets to divide the rich and the poor. You can see the marble cobble stones going in a different direction where the wall was.
After the tour, I watched the most amazing busker.
He was an older man and Croatian.
And a large group of young men had gathers around him singing and applauding.
He would be singing in Croatian and the launch into a Beatles or Bob Dylan song.
' Yellow Submarine' had them dancing in the aisles.
It was absolutely wonderful to watch!
Found an amazing jewellery shop.
All handmade by the nicest lady.
I bought a necklace.
I love it.
Fruit for lunch.
Planning on an egg and lettuce roll in Split.
Last time I had that it took 20 minutes to convince the lady in the shop that I didn't want anything else in it.
She'll probably run when she sees me.
A bit overcast, but warm.
Hope the rain holds off.
Going to Klis Fortress soon!
No rain.
Very sunny and warm.
See the next entry for the Klis Fortress tour.
Absolutely AMAZING place!
OK
After Klis Fortress, we drove to Split.
Oh ...
I want to go back and start again.
Everywhere I turned bought back memories!
And I only left on Thursday!!!
On the plus side, as our tour guide led the group down through the basements of the Palace ( the underground market ) I shot off and bought a huge ice cream in a cone and caught up with them 20 metres in.
I got some strange looks and 'where did you get that!'
And the ice cream was delicious!
The tour was great.
Learnt a lot about all the places I had wandered and gazed just a few days ago.
And I wandered the Riva.
But sad really.
On the plus side, we have a free 2 hours there tomorrow before we catch the ferry to Hvar.
Then back on the bus to a restaurant for dinner.
There are 2 couples from Wollongong in their early 50's that I have fun with so we had a funny night.
No restaurants to write home about yet, Emily.
Nothing like Turkey but just because the country is so different I think.
None of those high up restaurants with spectacular views.
The first night we ate inside the walls of old Trogir so no view at all. An outdoor restaurant. Nice place and lots of atmosphere because it was night and still lots of passing pedestrians.
And tonight had a nice view of moored yachts.
Home by 9pm.
Packing the case.
Leave for Split at 10.30am

Andrew Browning Still laughing.............
Andrew Browning Pretty good view for dinner!
Andrew Browning Hello!!!!! Boy am I enjoying reading your entries, not moving until I’ve read every letter, ENLARGED every photo and counted every stone!! Nope, not stopping for lunch………………….”how long you gonna be on that computer, how long does it take”……..Only you will understand how “important” this blogging is haha ………………well turns out I had lunch made for me, so now blogging between mouthfuls. I see you're using your new bag... and yep, that’s one way not to get lost! Nice to wander around on your own, but agree the walking tour offers the history, tales and stories. …………..and thanks, I almost spat my lunch out laughing when I read about the washing. Yes its normal but I can’t imagine doing it, talking to the neighbours whilst they peg their smalls on the line for display…….. I love the old board game carved in marble from games gone by and hard to believe they had class distinction even back in the “old days”Hey, you’ve also had a few unexpected surprises - guitar music, buskers, wine & chocolates, sunsets, a wedding…..great work! Weather looks brilliant in your photos and don’t worry about rain – it’s just “sky juice” I know what you mean Carolyn, I really do. You only left Split last Thursday and you’re back in a familiar wonderful safe place that floods your soul with joy and want to run around looking and touching everything again. I think that means ~ you like it! ~Thanks again, wasn’t finished my lunch, this time I couldn’t stop laughing. I had to call George to read it just so I could share the humour my mind saw. Knowing where you are and the locations, it was like I was there !!!!!!!...................so, the tour guide and group depart to the Palace basement and you pull off a serious military manoeuvre and get an ice cream, then effortlessly merge into the group looking amazingly smug. I LOVED it ~~~~VALUE ADD~~~ You’ve been here before, precision planning, knew just when to strike…….still laughing. Nice to get some local knowledge and history and wander Riva with some new pals and I think your dinner view is great, better than mine today haha.I’ll have a toast to you for dinner and pretend I’m somewhere with you. Thanks for the laugh and the great blog, feel like I’m on holiday!! ~~~~****Keep enjoying it all, so much more to come****~~~~ AndrewXx
Andrew Browning Be seen be safe.
Will Nice Carolyn, Croatia (I assume its Croatia :-)) looks amazing. That pics with the rich on one side and the poor on the other, it all looks the same, i.e. both sides are no different. Maybe the photo doesn't show it all.
Lisa Yours??!!!
