Well, we've spent the last two days in this nation's capital, Washington D.C. On Tuesday afternoon we visited the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum and today we undertook a wider tour of all the regular 'monuments' and tourist hot spots, including the Natural History Museum.
Unlike Houston, with it's blocks of tall glass skyscrapers and contemporary sculptures, Washington is entrenched in Colonial conservationism and wonderfully historic architecture. One area, Georgetown, is particularly 'preservationist' with even the replacement of a broken window requiring a plethora of planning applications to ensure the correct continuance of historical accuracy.
Altogether it was very pleasing on the eye and also surprisingly compact with all of it's well known locations in easy walking distance of each other. We're off to New York on the final leg of our journey tomorrow and I imagine the 'city that never sleeps' will be quite the opposite experience!
