Wow! What a day!
Our visit to Gallipoli cove, our walk along the beach front moved us to tears as we thought about the sacrifice made by both our boys and the Turks.
We stood under a tree at the Cove and were lead in devotions by Laurie & Simone, and as we listened to the bugle sound our minds turned to scenes of that day in 1915 when so many lives were lost. It was a very moving time of reflection, Laurie spoke to us about God' sacrifice and as I was listening I heard God whisper in my heart, "I love you so much that I too went to war for you, I fought for you and paid dearly for your freedom, gladly Jesus died for you to secure your eternal freedom".
My eyes filled with tears for the umpteenth time but this time they flowed for Jesus, and burned deep into my heart with refreshment from the Father. His reassurance & forgiveness once again flooded my soul and I knew His love afresh, praise His name!
As we strolled the many beautiful cemeteries and viewed the beauty of that place we were all touched by His grace.
It's been a great day to be an Australian, but even greater to be a member of the family of God.
ANZAC cove is a wonderful sacred place, and the Gallipoli peninsula is a place of friendship with our once enemy, the Turks. Friendship began during this fateful war. One story told is of an Aussie soldier, a Captain I think, who was seriously wounded and lay on the battlefield in the hot sun for many hours. A Turkish soldier raised a white flag and came onto the battlefield and picked up the Captain and brought him back to the Australian trenches and then quickly went back to his own trench. Such a demonstration of care cannot be overlooked! We tend to think in wartime of friends and enemies, but our enemies are just like us, with families and wives waiting for the day they come home, just like we do.
Today will be a day we will never forget, forever burned into our minds and hearts are the images and stories about freedom hard earned for us.
