Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
Friday we went on another trip to Phang Nga Bay. First we stopped off at Sunwankha temple which is called Monkey cave for the tourists. It gets the name from all the not so wild monkeys running round the entrance to the cave. Inside the cave is a reclining buddha and lots of bats, and outside lots of tourists feeding the monkeys bananas and nuts. The cave was really big and had several tunnels leading off, with big stalagmites hanging from the roof. Next we got a longtail boat through the mangrove forests out into Phang Nga bay for another look at the islands, and another stop off at James Bond island. Then onto Panyi floating village. Around 2000 people live in this village of wooden stilt houses. The tide was out so most of houses were above mud not water. The houses were not very nice, very basic, and fishy.
Saturday we went on a speedboat to Phi Phi islands famous from the film the Beach. It was even more amazing than we imagined, the water is magical, its such a beautiful colour. We stopped at Maya bay first, white sand, crystal clear water, and rocks surrounding the bay, paradise. Despite the masses of tourists everywhere. We had a swim in the lovely warm water before heading out arouud the corner to another bay for some snorkelling. we got to see lots of colourful fish. We then passed monkey beach where there are wild monkeys in the trees at the water edge. We the cruised round to another cove, Phi Ley Cove, more amazing colours, you really need to see it to believe it. We then went to Phi Phi Don island for lunch, this area was damaged heavily by the tsuanmi, but happy to report everything seems back to normal and more importantly the place was jam packed with tourists. Our final stop was at another desert island where we snorkelled and fed the fish. It was mad how many fish there was and in such shallow water, although some where a bit cheeky and nibbling your legs and hands.
We are now back in Bangkok for a night before we fly to Hong Kong tomorrow.
