Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
Flew down from Chiang Mai on Monday.Pleased to report our hotel at kamala beach one of the worst affected areas of the tsuanmi, was all up and running, and busy. There is stil alot of work going on around the town, complete with diggers going up and down the beach. However just pleased to see the place is getting back on its feet. We went into Patong Monday night, which was a complete shock. Not what we expected very touristy, full of bars and shops, and loads of tourists. Its at this point we realise how much we have become travellers and are lost in a tourist place, it seems surreal to be with so many other tourists, and we dont seem to like it. Its also more expensive than in the north of thailand. The beach at patong is very nice, and everything here looks back to normal, howevere it seems a shame that they have turned somewhere so pretty into a benidorm type resort.
On tuesday we relaxed on the beach and sorted out some trips for the next few days. we had a swim in the sea which was nice and warm, but not very clear.
Today we have been on a baot trip up to Phang Nga Bay, which is gorgeous. Loads of rocks sticking out of the green water, covered in trees. We went to James Bond island, basically 1 rock sticking out of the water, made famous in the man with the golden gun. We then went on canoes to 2 other islands. We went through caves which then brought us out into huge lagoons inside the islands. It was magical, been surrounded by rocks 100m high, green water only 1m deep, and seemed to be cut off from the outside world. Its like paradise, we had to lay down into the canoes to get through some of the caves. One of them was full of smelly bats. We stopped off at abeach on another island to relax. Another wonderful day to add to the other amazing memories.
