Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
We arrived into Auckland 6.30 Tuesday morning, rather jet lagged and not sure what day it was! It was bizarre we we 3 hours behind UK, flew for 13 hours, and ended up arriving 2 days later! Thankfully we were able to get straight into our hotel and get a few hours sleep.
Our sirst stop was the Sky Tower to get great views of the city and the harbourfront. its from up here you can see how the city is built over 50 dormont volcanos. The most prmoinent volcano is Rangitoto, on an island in the bay.
We took a ferry trip across the harbour to the lovely suburb of Devonport, which has many lovely 19th century houses, small beaches and cute craft shops and cafes.
We had a walk along the trendy waterfront in Auckland, complete with flash apartments, and trendy bars/restaurants. It also is home to boats that race in the Americas Cup.
Auckland has a compact downtown, and we were able to walk around most of it within a day. It has some nice shops and although it dosent have many sights itself its a nice base for a couple of days. Theer are a lot of tourists here, and tourist shops full of kiwi teddies and All Blacks rugby memorabillia.
On Wednesday we spent most of the day making arrangements for our time in New Zealand and trying to change flights on our round the world ticket which took nearly all afternoon as a lot of the flights we wanted weer booked up. Luckily we got it all sorted in the end. The we treated to ourselves to something we had been looking forward to for a long time, something we have been missing from home. We found a great cafe that sold huge varietys of different filled pukka pies, mmm yummy!
On Thursday we get our hire car and set off driving round both islands.
