I could hear the rain drops pouring down on our van, so I really didn't want to get up. We ended up sleeping in until gone 8am. Despite the lie in being a lovely start to the day, on arriving at the public showers (2 Dollars for 5 mins hot water), I was 5th in line for one shower! An hour later, I was finally in showering, racing to beat the clock! Thankfully, I just about managed to get all the soap and conditioner out of my hair before the freezing cold water burst out of the shower above me. Quickest shower of my life!
We headed to the Nelson library to use the wifi for a while. I had also spotted a frozen yoghurt shop so I dragged Matt in for a breakfast of frozen yoghurt and sprinkles before heading on our hour an a half journey to Bleinham, in the district of Marlborough. This area of New Zealand receives the highest number of sunshine hours throughout New Zealand, therefore the best place for growing crops such as different kinds of berries, grape vineyards and olive trees.
On our arrival into Bleinham, we saw a sign by the side of the road advertising honey for sale. As New Zealand is famous for its honey, we had to stop and get some.
Inside the well hidden shop, was a honey factory. The farmer (if that's what you could call him) welcomed us in to sample all their different types of honey. We chose the creamed clover honey and purchased it, perfect for our porridge and toast in the mornings! After, he showed us how they made honey right from them taking the wax frame out of the hive, and reducing it down through a filter process to be left with the pure honey. An interesting fact, honey never goes off, it is literally edible forever!
We drove on to the centre of Bleinham and wondered around the shops. The sun had started to shine through the clouds and it was actually a gorgeous afternoon. After, we found a little park and stopped for a picnic there of tuna sandwiches before heading on to find the a campsite. We'd seen on CamperMate app that there was a free campsite for all types of vehicles at a car park called Collins Memorial. We made it over there for 5pm but all 12 spaces were taken, if we risked it by parking there anyway, we could have faced a 200 dollar fine. After some considerable debate as the Wine tasting company had arranged to pick us up from that car park in the morning, we decided to stay at a cheap campsite. Spring Creek Holiday park was 35 dollars for power and wifi which was the cheapest yet.
I did some washing, while Matt headed out to get some cider as it was a beautiful evening. We informed the wine company of our change in pick up which they were fine with and sat in the sun with our beer and cider... the perfect camping evening!
Dinner was sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice courtesy of Matt, he's getting quite adventurous. I FaceTimed my parents and my auntie Hess, and later I had a short but sweet catch up with Lou Lou before calling it a night! I was soooo excited for our wine tasting tour tomorrow!!
