Thursday in Langkawi. We went on a mangrove tour this involved a boat trip with a few stops along the way.
The first stop to my horror was a bat cave. The walk to the cave was interesting the guide told us some interesting facts about the geology and make up of the area and the geopark status he also stopped and told us about some passing monkeys that took a liking to a little girl stupidly eating biscuits right in front of me!!! I was brave an went in to the bat cave briefly, took a photo and quickly exited!! However I didn't realise to get back to the boat we had to go out the other side of the cave...........Tracey had to come and find me. Queue "agghhhh" I ducked down and walked very quickly behind Tracey with my eyes practically closed till we made it through!! Few glad that bit was over!! After the cave we went to a floating fish farm where a local man told us about the various fish and Tracey was brave enough to feed a sting ray!! They are quite cheeky chappys really!
On the way to the next stop we visited "crocodile cave" where we encountered two boats of loud Americans - apparently it was a famous American from the tv show American Chopper. We couldn't go in the cave thankfully because the tide was to high! We also saw some more eagles, this time only 1 out of 5 boats are allowed to feed them which made it a bit more acceptable to me.
From here we moved on to a gorgeous beach with white sand and turquoise sea looking out towards Thailand (had it not been so misty!) The sand was so hot I thought my feet would be covered in blisters and had no choice but to walk in the warm sea.
Last stop was a floating restaurant where we had chicken and rice. As always there was a slightly annoying couple on our tour who decided they wanted cooked fresh fish as well as their chicken and rice so we had to wait longer than we should have for them.
Tracey should have been on a night jungle trek this evening but it was cancelled at the last minute and Simi changed my massage to Friday evening and we went to the arabic restaurant for dinner instead.
Friday. Today we got a taxi to the oriental village and Langkawi's cable car ride. the cable car was very very high and very steep (700m above sea level). Tracey wasn't top impressed with this but she was brave an did it. At the top is a curved suspension bridge which I though was pretty cool. Yes dad I took photos for you! The trip back down the mountain was a little like the first big drop from a roller coaster and I must admit I did feel a little sick for a second or two. But I would rather dangle in mid air than be down a cave so all in all I thoroughly enjoyed the ride- mum you would have been waiting right at the bottom!!!!!!!
After the cable car we had lunch the decided to ride an elephant! I did this in Thailand but it was a first for Tracey. In Thailand we got to sit on a wooden bench on the elephants back. However here we sat one behind the other on a thick blanket. Saddle sore is a bit of an understatement!!!!!!!!! It was a lovely gentle elephant though.
Back to the hotel and I went for my massage. I can't quite decide if it was meant for pleasure or pain but I feel like I have been beaten up!!! Definitely not the nicest massage I have ever had!! I asked the girl to lessen the pressure but it fell on deaf ears!!! I have invisible bruises all over my body and especially down my back and spine. So add that to the saddle sore, sitting down and laying down are not the most comfortable positions at the moment as you can imagine!!!!
Next stop Kuala Lumpur and the Malaysian Grand Prix!
