Awoke to a thundery, stormy wet morning. Decided to take in a cave so as to stay dryish and headed off to Lake Cave. The signs of storm damage from the tornado a few weeks ago are still in evidence - lots of big trees on the ground. took in the cave tour at 9.30 with another family of 3 much younger boys. The cave was essentially just a big cavern with lots of formations - very pretty and very alive, although the water table is receding inexplicably and they are having to top up the supply to the underground lake. There is a suspended table(?) above the lake. So much activity in terms of water dripping. The caves are reached by descending through a doline or collapsed cave, which is heavily vegetated and shows how thin the roof of the original cavern was. The road runs over the existing cavern's roof, and once we were aware if it's situation, it became very visible from the road as we returned. By the time we emerged, the sun was breaking through and our raincoats were superfluous. Headed up towards Cape Naturaliste for the other end of the peninsular. Did a walk around the site, saw lots of hibertia and hardenbergia and a pea flower. Had to pay to go into the lighthouse, so we didn't. It was only very short anyway. The sea was glassy and grey, but no visible whales. Headed on to Busselton, where we had sandwiches whilst sitting in the car, but we're disappointed to find there was a fee involved in gaining entrance to the enormously long wharf, so we didn't. Arrived Mandurah about 4pm. No troubles booking in at Silver Sands. Ross stayed in the apartment, while the boys and I went to the local IGA to procure supplies and cold medicine. Dinner was a delicious beef casserole, cooked despite the lack of an oven, but Ross was not well and took himself to bed.
Did 2 loads of washing, and then put the dishwasher on. Into bed about 10pm.
