Papayas and bananas for breakfast and its hot already. The hotel is right next to the main crossing point to the south bank, and from dawn there has been the constant drone of hundreds of little motorbikes coming and going. They have anywhere between 1 and 4 people plus luggage/livestock aboard and negotiate the junctions with the aid of their horns, but its all done at a much more relaxed pace than in Kinshasa.
The motorbikes are meeting a procession of huge dugout canoes coming over from the opposite bank. The really big ones are motorised and look as if they have at least 50 people aboard. The smaller ones are paddled, but with the paddlers standing upright at bow and stern - which looks like really hard work. The current in the middle is obviously very strong and whether motorised or not there is a bit in the middle where they have to turn into the current and appear to simply mark time for a minute or two before they emerge from the current and head into the far bank.
