We had made a decision and were going to get our hotel to book the tour for us which would start tomorrow. When we spoke to them the price had changed slightly but James got it back to what it was. After breakfast it felt much better knowing that was booked and we could just enjoy the rest of the day looking around Hanoi some more. We had wanted to visit the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, it was a bit of a walk away but we had all day to do it in. It took around an hour or so to get close to it and then about 10-15 minutes to find the correct entrance. Once we got in it was a long walk and then everyone was taken in groups and asked to walk in pairs down a certain bit of road. We walked up to the mausoleum on a red carpet and walked very slowly through in our pairs. There was security everywhere watching what we were doing, at one point James had his arms folded and was asked to put them down, it was also silence when you went in the mausoleum. It was a bizarre experience, walking around a glass casket with Ho Chi Minh inside, his body has kept very well. Once you got out there were other things to look at such as Ho Chi Minh's house, offices and cars etc. So we had a wander round everywhere. At the end of this there was a Ho Chi Minh museum which cost to get in and would be closing pretty soon. Well I say it cost to get in, it cost white people to get in. Vietnamese people obviously get in for free as they were just walking through and anyone that looked Vietnamese got in too. No checking ID cards just purely done on colour. We gave it a skip anyway. We walked out of the mausoleum site and headed towards where we thought the Ethnology museum was, the museum had been recommended by a couple of people so we thought we'd go. After walking for ages we got to the botanical gardens in Hanoi which were really pretty, we stopped and had a wander round here for a little while. Eventually we gave in and got a taxi to the Ethnology museum, after the taxi ride we realised we would never have found it by walking here! We had a look around, some parts were interesting but others were very very similar to the women's museum we have been to already. After all that searching for the museum we were a little disappointed. We had to get a taxi back into the old quarter so we decided we would get it to the restaurant that had been recommended and we couldn't find last night. We went in to have some tea. It was a restaurant which served only one dish. It was a fish dish, you got a burner on the table with a pan on top with the cooked fish then you added fresh herbs and spring onions and rice noodles and let it cook. You then add as much as you want to your bowl and eat with chopsticks. It was really good! We wandered back to our hotel and tried to get a good nights sleep as tomorrow night we would be on a sleeper train to Sapa.
