We knew we had to set off quite early this morning so got everything sorted and checked out just before 8.00pm. It was about a 15 minute walk down the the beach with our bags on so we asked a taxi driver how much to take us and it was £4 that was the lowest he would get in his car for. We decided the walk would be fine! We were about five minutes away when we saw the bus at the bottom of the road so we ran a little and caught it. The bus was just like a giant songthaew and worked the same way too, we went very slowly down the beach front beeping the horn for more passengers until we were full. We got this bus to Phuket town then got a ticket for a bus which goes very close to Khao Sok but we could change again to eventually get there. The journeys weren't so bad, we had air conditioning and we both finished a book. When we were waiting for the last bus to Khao Sok we met a Russian couple going the same way. When we got off we waited at the bus stop as when we'd rung to book the hut the guy who owns it, Mr Toy, had said he would pick us up. No one was there so James rang, a woman answered and said something about walking and I think it had got confused because we ended the conversation thinking someone was still coming. Luckily there were still taxi drivers around, they asked where we were staying and rang then one of them said he'd drop us off there. We drove for about a minute down the road and then turned off up a drive. The walk would have taken us maximum five minutes! If Mr Toy had said he was this close we would have insisted we walk this far anyway! Oh well, we got here, greeted by the lady who answered the phone she showed us our hut. It was very basic but no different from some we have stayed in before. Toilet with no flush, just a bucket of water and only a cold shower, but for the money we have paid it was great. We dumped our things and went for a walk down the road to check the place out. We walked until we saw a shop to get water, the Russian couple we had met before the last bus journey were outside so we stayed talking to them for a little while. We then carried on walking until you reach an entrance for the national park, it was about 4.30pm by this point and the park shuts at 6.00pm so we decided not to pay to go in now. We set off back and came across a little restaurant where we stopped for a cold beer, it's so hot here! We stayed for a while and got some food too which was really good. We walked back to our hut and hoped Mr Toy would be back because we want to book some sort of lake trip with him for tomorrow. He was there when we got back so we asked him about it, his trips were a little more expensive than we'd seen so James tried asking for a discount. Mr Toy gave loads of excuses why the trip cost what it did and we sat for quite a while discussing it. We asked about what the trip was and he said pick up from the hotel, transfer to the lake, lunch and then a walk/climb in a cave. We asked if there was any kayaking and he said yes we could do some. He asked how were we at climbing, and we said not great. He suggested what we do was join the group for 30-40 minutes walk then head back and get more time kayaking and swimming. This sounded good to us so we decided to agree. At this point Mr Toy got up and said ok and knocked 200 baht each off the trip and said breakfast was included too. He then left to drop some people off in town, James and I were left thinking what just happened? It was the strangest negotiation I've ever seen, oh well the trip got cheaper that's the main thing. We went back to our hut, got things together for tomorrow and got to sleep because we get picked up in the morning at 9.00am.
