We had the scooter all day today so decided we go out somewhere for breakfast to start with. Everywhere seemed really quiet and hardly open, we were heading for a part of the beach which is attached to a small island called Ko Ma. In the right tide you can wade from Phangan across to it and its supposed to be good for snorkeling. We thought head in that direction and if anything takes our fancy we'll stop and get something. We managed to get to the beach before having breakfast but there were a few places on the beach so we got some there. Afterwards we found a shop which rented masks and snorkels. We just got one because we are going to see if a pair of goggles that we have and a snorkel that James found last time we were snorkeling, would be any use. If so we only have to rent or buy one snorkel and mask. We went in to give it a go. The visibility was quite poor, by now there were loads of people trooping into the water with their snorkel gear on. We swam out a little, the goggles and snorkel were rubbish and unfortunately the snorkel we rented let water in sometimes which was annoying. But we did some sharing and saw a few fish, nothing spectacular but seeing fish right beneath you is always cool. We made our way back, sat and dried off whilst reading. Later in the afternoon we got hungry again and tried a place down the beach. We hadn't realised it would be so popular, there were people waiting to be seated! We skipped it, I'm sure it's good but we couldn't be bothered to queue. We packed our things up and decided we would make our way back with a stop off somewhere for food. It was quite a way back when we saw a restaurant which looked ok, we got food which was good and then set off again. We thought we'd see how far we could get going in the Haad Rin direction of the island, we read that you have to go over a hill called "the hill of tears", intrigued by this we went for a look. They weren't kidding! It was so steep we got no distance on it before having to turn around again. We watched as people attempted it on scooters and then their passengers having to walk part of the way. We went back to the hut but stopped off at the tesco for supplies again before then. James wanted to see if he could catch the sunset on the beach near by so I left him to it and took the things to the hut and got in the pool for a dip. The scooter also went back before James came back and joined me for a swim.
