Our alarm was set for 6am when we got up pulled the curtains back and got sat in the two chairs in the room. The sun rose at about 6.40am. It was great, it rose right in front of our view from the window. There were loads of people on rooftops, down by the beach and in walkways, all waiting to watch. This morning we decided after breakfast that we would take a walk to the jetty which we could see looking left out of our window. We found our way to the jetty by walking down some back alleys and around the backs of people's houses. When we got there we started walking along it, it was unbelievably windy. There was so much rubbish on the jetty but it looked stuck in as if it were made of rubbish, bits of clothing, old sandals and even toothbrushes?! About half way along it changed into being made from giant rocks which were a little more tricky to walk over, we stopped and sat on the rocks for a bit, it was a nice view back at the town from here. We saw while we were sat a big white church near by so thought we'd walk back past the church to have a look. It was a strange place, the church grounds were properly paved and it looked really clean around there. There was a little museum near by which some security guy from outside encouraged us to look at. It was about 9 pictures of Jesus etc and that was about all that was there. We made our way back to the hotel after this for a chill. After a little while we decided to have a walk around a part of the town we hadn't gone to yet and past the Ghandi memorial they have here. This part of town was packed with people and little shops. There was a great view of the two islands and you could see the viewing tower from here so this means it would be a great place to watch the sunset tonight. We sat on a wall watching quite a few Indian men going into the sea. They see this water from three seas as holy water so like to bathe in it and fill bottles to take home with them. While sat, there was a woman trying to sell hair grips to us, see was called Gheeta and was extremely hard to understand, due to not having any teeth at the front of her mouth! Anyway we didn't want any hair grips, she then told me she has two children and made a sign for crying. Still didn't want hair grips, then she wanted James to take a photograph of me and her together. She gave me two hair grips saying they matched my top and she didn't want money, she liked me because I smiled a lot, I tried to give them back so she could get some money for them but she wouldn't have it. She wandered off after this. James got a coconut to drink. We watched a lot of children who looked like they were still in their school uniforms getting wet on the beach. Also on the beach was a homeless guy who was looking for food in carrier bags and eating anything he could get his hands on. James got his coconut cut so we could eat the flesh, we had a little then gave the rest to the hungry guy. We decided to go back to the hotel and quickly get something to eat before the sunset and come back here to watch it. On coming back it had really busied up, there must have been thousands of people here now. Lots of men were now jumping into the water and loving it! We watched for a while until a couple of guys walked up to us to ask whether they could have their photos taken with us, James wasn't bothered so said yes then I reluctantly agreed. They switched over and just as we were going to go back to watching the sunset a guy pushed his kid in the space between us for a photograph. We moved from the wall at this point and found a place to get some good photos. Gheeta found us again and said no one was buying she came and sat with us for a while. The sunset was less hazy than last night, it was much better. We got back to the hotel, sorted some bits as we're moving again tomorrow and got to bed early to watch the sunrise again in the morning.
