Brie & Trent's Travels
We checked out of our bed bug hostel and checked into the hostel I'd been waiting to see... The Flying Pig. It is located in the middle of the center in Amsterdam... much more of a prime location than the hostel by the museums. We arrived a little early for check in so Trent decided to check out Anne Frank's house... which I recommended from last time I was there. Unfortunately, the attic of the house was closed, so he really didnt get to see everything. I decided to change my plans and I just hung out in the hostel until check in. This place was the place to be. It really didnt matter what time it was... we got there around 10am and there were people drinking... Inside there were pool tables, a bar, and a huge hangout area thing that was full of pillows and short coffee tables... which clearly stated no shoes and no sleeping... it was great.
After we checked in we headed for a stroll around the city which was really nice, because we went through less touristy areas and cruised by the beautiful canals. I wish the canal bus wasnt soo expensive or we wouldve taken it around.. well at least we got that experience in Venice.
We headed to a cafe and had a pre-lunch heiniken... which by the way tasted nothing like heiniken... i think they served us the fake stuff. We headed over to the Pancake Bakery, the same place Greg and I ate when we were there, and Trent had a pancake. I decided I could order an omelet instead since I had already had the pancake experience... plus the idea of eggs was too hard to pass up. Trent ordered a chicken, onion and cheese pancake which was more like a huge crepe. We cruised around the city so more and then headed back to the hostel to get our free beer with the coupon they gave us to make up for the fact that our room's bathroom was out of order... i guess that kinda makes up for it. It was nice though, to stay in a room with only four people. It really makes more of a difference than I thought. Before when I was traveling we had a group of eight or nine so we were used to it and it was ok if we woke each other up, but in a room with seven other strangers is kinda a weird experience, and I always feel bad when we have to wake up soo early to catch our flights and we are noisy.
Well we planned on renting bikes, but we decided it might not be the safest thing considering everyone there is so serious about getting places when theyre on bikes... we mightve died. just kidding. i really wanted to bring home some chocolate, because i bought some last time and it never made it home because i ate it all.. but trent and realized that it would just melt in spain anyways.
oh i almost forgot... IT RAINED... yep it rained in Amsterdam and we got to wear something other than a T shirt to keep warm... good good times.
We headed to bed early and then woke up to catch our flight to Madrid which was quick and easy and only slightly delayed.
We got some delicious lunch and then Trent headed to see Guernica at the Reina Sofia and I decided to go shopping to buy a clean shirt for tomorrow. I figured tomorrow would be a good clean shirt day... haha... plus I saw Guernica last time I was here.
It is as hot as ever in Madrid. Trent was saying how it is such an odd feeling to go full circle and end our vacation here. I like it that way... mainly because Madrid gives me some comfort because it is so familiar.
So tonight we are going to head to this delicious italian restaurant that Matt and I ate at last time we were here... hopefully we can find it. We are excited to drink a bottle of spanish wine that will cost us only 6e. I love it here.
So we are hoping that none of our flights are delayed tomorrow, because we have to change planes three times... and it might cause problems...
grandma check the flight online to make sure we arent delayed...
love you all and miss you... see you tomorrow... wow that seems so odd to type. and get ready, were bringing the bugs with us. just kidding. trent said those bugs dont dare get close to him again...
peace out
