I think the wariness of travel is starting to settle in and the countdown to our return home has started: Lego, healthy food, cosy beds, showers without a press button. Or it could just be the car alarm that woke everyone at 6am followed by a full day adventuring.
Today we had an adventure instructor booked and headed to Matlock for some Weaseling (scrambling in and around rocks) and climbing. Needless to say it was awesome. The kids were ecstatic that they were finally allowed to climb up and around massive rocks and the adventure was challenging in a fun way. We had to squeeze through tight holes, walk the plank and climb a dinosaurs back.
After lunch, when we realised we couldn’t go caving as the car parks were too busy, we headed to Harborough Rocks, a very beginner friendly crag. We each took turns on first the easier route and then the more challenging one which included bypassing a tricky overhang. Oliver was thrilled as by the end, with our instructors support, he attempted the harder route up a seam in the rock and managed it. Elizabeth was also a little trooper, tackling everything and preserving when the going got tough. So proud of my little adventurers.
The kids finished the day abseiling through a hole into a cave which they enjoyed so much, they did it about four times, before it was time to pack up and head back.
An awesome day. Relaxed evening and early night in store, I feel.
