Today we were up and out early, heading to the most beautiful house in the country. I remembered my father taking me to Chatsworth when I was young and was excited to relive the memories with my own children. Elizabeth, getting into the swing of these stately homes, wore her crown so that she could be a duchess for the day.
We toured the gardens first, which were filled with beautiful flowers. The kitchen garden was overflowing with produce. We saw the grotto, made the kids count the 100 steps, tackled the maze, played in the rockery which now includes a cool coal tunnel to walk through, and had a picnic by the emperor fountain.
After lunch we went into the house which Oliver decided was too grand for him. The heavy influence and decoration of the classics made me realise how little of my degree I remember but also explained why I love the place so much. It was interesting that the house now includes modern paintings and sculpture, an interesting juxtaposition which i liked.
We spent the afternoon chilling in the campsite and the evening reminiscing about the past month. What an amazing adventure.
