Pitted patter raindrops through the night signalled that all was back to normal in Scotland. Thankfully much of the rain fell in the night and by morning the sky was cloudy but dry.
After another lazy morning of enjoying a quiet coffee whilst the kids explored the campsite on their bikes, we set off for a 6km walk to the green loch (it has a more impressive Scottish name but the reception is dreadful here so I can’t look at the OS map to check). The walk meandered through thick woodland up a valley and down a steep slope with lots of gnarly tree routes for the kids to play in/on/around. Eventually, we reached the green lake, an emerald mirror to its surrounding hills. We found a nice spot and settled in for a picnic with some eager ducks looking for scraps and swarms of midges looking to feast. Afterwards we took the gentle route back to the campsite and a nice cup of tea.
We decided to spend the rest of the afternoon on the beach. After they had finished digging a big hole and marvelling at how the bottom had water in it, they eagerly put their wetsuits on and jumped in the water. Andy and I opted out today. Oliver assured me that it was warmer than yesterday and the kids did seem to last longer before the cold got too much. We headed back to the bus just as the heavens opened and trapped us there for the rest of the afternoon listening to Harry Potter. I don’t think anyone minded too much.
