What a great day! The rain has finally moved on and we woke to a cloudy but warm day. Great weather for walking in the fells.
Loughrigg Fell is walking distance from our campsite and has the added attraction of bagging another Wainwright. Naturally it was begging to be conquered. We mapped a route which took in Skelwith Falls on our way. After all the rain we’ve had, it was a pretty impressive sight. A huge force of water barrelling down the hill. I was even nervous standing on the platform that gave you a better view.
After the waterfall we proceeded up Loughrigg Fell (335m). First we circumvented Loughrigg Tarn, a pretty Lake, before ascending the fell. The climb was steep but stunning and the kids had a great time scrambling over rocks and putting their hands on the stream. At the top, we enjoyed lunch with breathtaking views before heading back down and eventually retracing our steps back to the campsite.
The walk was around 6 miles. Clearly not long enough as afterwards the kids were out on their bikes and spent the rest of the afternoon in the playground whilst Andy and I just wanted to chill!
Local beer of the day is from the Hawkeshead brewery.
