Actually feel like falling asleep at 9:23 instead of blogging, but will force myself to stay awake. Kids were asleep by 8:45, the earliest so far. We set the alarm for 7:00 this morning, and will do so again for tomorrow ... we need to become early risers for this holiday so we can make better progress. It takes 2 to 2.5 hours to wake up, eat and pack all the gear to get on the road.
Another great day today. Started with a ride on the miniature train at Big Rig in Roma. Quite a long track including a big bridge over the river, which the train crosses twice. Now if we could only try the one in Holbrook ...
We lunched at Morven, which is pretty small, but it had a museum of historic buildings and machinery, one of which Max is sitting on in this photo. They also had a great playground with some “hanging monkey wheels” that I’ve never seen before. My highlight of the lunch stop was seeing and photographing two new birds, the Yellow-throated Miner and the Spotted Bowerbird. At least I think that’s what they were ... I can't be certain until I get home and edit the photos.
Tonight we are camped at the caravan park at Tambo. A cute little town which has spent a bit of money recently on new buildings, street-scaping, fancy footpaths, etcetera. Quite an arty flavour to it ... art gallery, teddy bear shop, trendy cafe and so on. We walked down the main street to the lake to watch the sunset. Heaps of birds down there ... if we were staying here for a day I would get the boat out.
That’s actually the biggest pain, having to leave a new place before you’ve explored it properly.
