First stop today was at Ilfracombe, where they have a huge collection of old vehicles and machinery arranged in a single row between the highway and the railway line. Got some shots of Jesse and I in a WW2 tank, looking mean. I liked the rusty trucks the best, but you’ll have to wait to see them until I get home and sort out all the photos.
Lunch (a rather late one) was at Fanny Mae’s Cafe at Tambo, the super-cute town we stayed at on the way up. A mushroom pie made a nice change from stale sandwiches.
And so we made it to our planned destination, Charleville, a cute town with wide streets, similar in size (3000) to Cloncurry. The Cobb & Co Caravan Park is extremely efficient and hospitable: they showed us to our site, helped us back the trailers, and supplied a fire bowl and firewood free of charge! Lots of large trees are dotted around; they really stand out after a few weeks up north, where all the trees are small. Anyway, we had a lovely fire with toasted marshmallows and enjoyed the stars again; a very pleasant evening.
