Before reading this blog, refresh your memory from Day 1 of this journey, in particular when we checked into the resort and checked if they had VISA.
So the last day of our Caramoan adventure had finally arrived. Now it was time to head back to Naga and then to Camsur Watersports Park (CWC) for 2 days of wakeboarding. So we had breakfast (which was ready for us again), organised the pedicab to the port, packed our stuff and went to check-out and pay our bill. Brenden pulled his wallet out and handed the lady his Credit Card. She looked back with this blank look on her face. "Sorry sir, we don't have eftpos or credit card facilities here." (But hang on I thought we checked that when we got here). "OK, that's fine. Where is the nearest ATM so I can re-draw some cash out." Brenden kindly replied. "Naga" replied the lady behind reception. Naga!!!!! WTF!!!!! Naga is a 15 minute pedicab ride, then a 2 hour boat ride, then a 1 hour taxi ride away. Both us looked at each other with this 'Holy f***' look on our faces. So, what do we do? Luckily, one of the employees of the resort was heading back to Naga so we organised for him to travel with us, then when we get to Naga we find an ATM and we pay him. Sounds easy enough.
So we all pile onto the pedicab and head to the port. When we get there, the guy we were travelling with told us that there is a bigger, better boat we should travel on. We asked him if it went to the same port we originally came from as that's where our driver would be that we booked as part of our package. I don't think he understood what we were saying........... So we sat on the boat for about an hour before it decided to leave. They had a kiosk but they didn't have any beer and I swear the boat ride was longer then the first one.
When the boat finally arrived at the completely wrong dock we realise that our pre-arranged driver is no where to be seen. I don't think the employee realised we had everything pre-arranged cause he pointed to this van, which was already full, and said that was our ride. Awesome!!! So we pay the driver the 100 pesos ($2.20) and squeeze our way into the van. There was 4 of us along the back seat, 3 on middle seat, 3 on the front seat and then another 3 people up with the driver. Brenden couldn't move his legs and he kept hitting his head on the roof of the van. He was not in a good mood once we'd travelled the 1 hour back to Naga. Plus there was a dodgy fkn air conditioner just behind the driver, blowing air into the back part of the van but it was also pissing water out all over his Kitesurf bag. Hmmmmmm.................
We finally get to Naga, find an ATM, pay the employee and then get a taxi to CWC. The taxi driver tried telling us he'd drive us there for $350 Pesos. We told him to put the meter on instead. We get to Camsur at about 4pm after leaving the resort at 10am. The meter came to $170 Pesos, Brenden only had a $500 note so we handed that to the driver. He only had $125 in change so we ended up paying $25 more then the driver originally quoted us. Oh we love this place!!!!
CWC is a watersports park that has a heap of rooms/bungalows that you stay in. It's actually a really good setup, s***s all over the one at Susan River. So we finally get checked into our room that smelt like mould and the paint was also coming off the walls and ceiling. We both collected our thoughts and headed over to the park. As it being a 4 day weekend, there was s*** loads of people there and there wasn't any gear left to rent so we couldn't board. That's OK, we were both f***ed so we just had something to eat and a few beers. The burgers were fantastic. We do love Asian food but it was fantastic to eat something Western - and quite fattening.
The next day we were up early, rented out gear for half the day and started our wakeboarding shinanigans. Jodi had never wakeboarded before so we got some awesome videos of her stacking it that are gonna end up on funniest home videos (check out the Videos section of the blog) But by about her 6th attempt, Jodi was up. Brenden had done some in Thailand so he was a pro
We handed our gear back at about 12.00pm and got an hour massage before heading to Naga Airport for our flight back to Manila.
We'd be sitting in the airport for probably an hour and a half or so, the scheduled departure time for our flight had been and gone. Then a message comes across the PA that our flight had been cancelled due to congestion at Manila Airport. Awesome, that was the last flight of the day. So everyone makes a mad scramble to the check-in counter to be first in line to re-book the next available flight. After about 10 minutes of pushing and shoving around the check-in desk, one of the check-in staff announced that our flight had been re-scheduled and was due in Naga in about an hour. Thank f***!!!! It was either stay in Naga for the night or find a driver to take us back to Manila that night - about a 10 hr drive.
While we were waiting for our re-scheduled flight to arrive, Jodi started feeling really tired to the extent she could hardly sit up. She'd swallowed some water at CWC. That stuff was fowl! If you stood up there was about 4 inches of silt and s*** on the bottom of the dam. I'm sure it had never been drained and cleaned. So by the time we landed in Manila at about 6pm, Jodi had the shivers and felt quite ill. We got home, Jodi had a shower and went to bed. Then she suffered for the next few days. Nothing like getting every stomach bug that's ever been in the Philippines in 1 mouth full of water!!!!
We both look back on this weekend and can't help but laugh. After everything that happened, everything that went wrong that could go wrong plus more, we still had one of the best weekends. I guess it's all character building in the end.
Missing everyone back home. We'll be home in January for a week, hope to see everyone then.
