Our final day in Munich and Bavaria turned on the sunshine big style. An unintended stroll through Gypsy town got the adrenaline pumping first thing in the morning, which made breakfast in a picturesque shady courtyard all the more relaxing.
It took a bit but we eventually tracked down our hop-on-hop-off tour bus and set off to see it all from the top deck. First a stop at the enormous Schloss Nymphenburg, then BMW World where I resisted to urge to accessorise the mini and then the fourth stop just outside the English Gardens.
We strolled through the gardens to the Chinesischer Turm where the lunch time bier fest was just beginning. Thousands of people were taking up their seats under the chestnut trees, the band had Ein Prosit in the background - Wunderbar! The family decided we should move on before I got too settled, we hoped a horse and carriage around the gardens, such a magical day. We came across the surfers riding their boards in the stream and thousands of people out enjoying the sun.
Outside of the Gardens we decided to abandon the Munich tour and head to Lowenbrau Keller, the last remaining "Bier City" in Munich. Now properly lazy for the afternoon Gab had us work it off with a walk down to the residence - but we never made it, eventually declaring ourselves lost it was Uber to the rescue for the second time in one day - taking us back to pick up the hire car.
I should say a truck - a full size VW Transporter, fits all of us and luggage very comfortably - the only drawback is I usually drive a mini, switching up to this monster, and on the wrong side of the road made perfect fodder for Max who cracked jokes about my bad driving for the next hour. They'd never heard of a bunnyhop before, I did my best to give them plenty of examples :)
Eventually locking the car up for the night Emerson and I got back into our Bavarian tourist outfits and headed off to Hofbrauhaus for dinner with the whole family.
So I've said it was a nice sunny day, it got over 30, the coolest places all day were under the trees in the English Garden and in the Uber cars - we had dinner in the recently refurbed dining hall at Hofbrauhaus - but there was no aircon, leaving only the hefeweiss to keep me cool :)
Dinner was delicious but eventually we had to get downstairs to experience the hall in full flight. Here the band was belting out their German drinking songs another few rounds and I discover that I'd exposed Emerson to so much Gypsy culture in the last two days she's take it all the heart - Uncle Mark has tracked down a collection basket and there behind it are Emerson and Claire doing some interpretive bavarian inspired jostling. A japanese group thought they were amazing! All the attention was too much for them to pass up - selfie after selfie with tourists was the least the girls could do for their adoring fans.
Cracking day and night made for a perfect end to our time in Munich.
