I woke this morning and realised I had enjoyed the festival so much last night that leaving the hotel before 10 sounded far too energetic. The day long drizzle meant the English Garden probably wasn't going to be as pumping as I'd hoped. We decided it would either be the new Pinakothic or the Residence. I left it up the kids and Castles trumped art.
The Wittelsbach family commenced the residence over a thousand years ago. Each generation kept adding their touch for nearly another 800 years I think. The effort both to protect the royalty and to impress (or dominate as Max would say) guests was as extreme as one another throughout. All day long there were lots of ooohhs and aaaahs around most corners, and a few dropped jaws. The biggest of them all was in the commemorative crypt where skulls, hands and other random bones, are kept within jewelry like presentation cases.
We hadn't been to this part of the city before, the gardens, and the various wings/additions to the Palace was capitvating enough to keep us walking for just over 27k steps all up today, that nearly tops our biggest Disney park day.
To recover we continued the stroll all the way to the Hofbrauhaus. Although given the weather we probably should have guessed that there was to be a fair amount of table competition today, but that only boosted the HB atmosphere further.
Tomorrow it's Neuschwanstein redux, hopefully we make it in this time.
